Bewaar & Bespaar - Promoting sustainability with GPT-4V - Albert Heijn

The project

During my internship at Albert Heijn, I worked in a team of interns on “Bewaar & Bespaar”, a project exploring how GPT-4V can help raise awareness about sustainability and food waste.

The idea was to give customers personalized food storage advice by analyzing photos of their groceries and sharing tips from the Voedingscentrum. This way, people could easily learn how to store their food better and reduce waste.

I mainly focused on the frontend development, creating a clear and user-friendly interface that made it simple for users to interact with the AI features. Working closely with teammates who handled the AI and backend, we built a smooth and engaging experience from start to finish. The frontend was developed using TypeScript and SCSS to ensure maintainable, responsive, and visually consistent code.

Bewaar & Bespaar - Promoting sustainability with GPT-4V - Albert Heijn

Media Monetization - AI-Powered Banner Tool - Albert Heijn

The project

Also during my internship at Albert Heijn, I worked with a team of interns on “Media Monetization”, a project to develop a tool for advertisers, enabling them to use AI to generate engaging background images for Albert Heijn banners, instead of the default neutral color.

The tool allows users to generate an image using a text prompt, then crop the image and optionally apply a gradient. Users can also select a title, call-to-action, and product image to complete the banner.

I was responsible for implementing the cropping functionality and the gradient feature, ensuring the generated images could be easily customized to fit the banner layout. Working alongside teammates handling AI generation, we created an intuitive interface that simplifies the process of producing visually appealing marketing materials.

Event & community platform - Happy Hospitality Collective

The project

Working in a team of fellow students, we developed a website for the Happy Hospitality Collective, an organization focused on promoting sustainability in hospitality while connecting and supporting professionals in the industry.

Our goal was to build a user-friendly platform where members could sign up for events, create accounts, and stay informed through automated email notifications. The site included key features such as login and registration, password recovery, and event sign-ups, all designed to make it easy for users to stay engaged.

I worked collaboratively with my teammates on both the design and functionality, contributing especially to the frontend development and user experience.
